“We can be summer dry and it seems to withstand the dry more, and still grows over winter. That’s why we’re converting our farm to that grass.”

Palatability is what dairy farmer Andrew Allen is looking for from his crops and pastures, and he’s found that in the Seed Force™ products planted on his Waiterimu farm.

The Allens, who milk 1,100 cows over two properties totalling 360 hectares, have SF Finesse tall fescue and SF Quest white clover as well as SF Punter™ chicory and SF White Star turnips planted.

The SF Finesse tall fescue has also been very successful for them and they aim to eventually have 80% of their farm in fescue. Andrew says it suits their system and is more resilient in the dry. “We can be summer dry and it seems to withstand the dry more, and still grows over winter. That’s why we’re converting our farm to that grass.”

Their system is to plant 40 hectares annually in chicory and turnips and when those summer crops come out they replace them with fescue permanent pasture.

Andrew says their Seed Force™ territory manager Ben Leong is a very good adviser on the products. “He’s very knowledgeable and the products themselves are excellent. I’m fully satisfied.”

“Selling seed is one thing, but it’s the follow up and service you get after that I lie weight on. Ben’s very good at following up and his service is excellent. I’ve got a lot of faith in his experience and advice,” Andrew says.
